Chris Evans ( Deganwy )

Post by geraint jones » Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:28 pm

Sad news received yesterday that Chris Evans who played for Deganwy, has passed away

I am sure all that had the pleasure of his company have there own memories!

All though he nearly put myself in a early grave in the seventies!!.....but he was a legend at Deganwy with a heart of gold

RIP Chris and could never forget the good times

really sad news wigger.
Had some great times both on the green and around Conwy pubs.
I remember a time when he won a cup on sunny rhyl when weekly summer comps were run.Together with teccers and myself we went around Rhyl to celebrate (drink driving was not an issue with Chris) Later that evening driving home in the MGB his radiator was over heating so we had to stop every mile or so to fill the rad from the cup.Cant say what we filled it with but always advised future winners of the trehern cup? not to drink out of it.
Great bowler and always had plans A B and C when he took to the green.
If you can let me know funeral details mate.

Yes, I learnt about the passing of Chris Evans only yesterday morning in the gym from a non-bowler.

I also have many memories from 1964 when me, Gary Roberts, the late Roger Bray and now the late Chris Evans started together as a group playing on the Deganwy bowling green during oor school summer holidays under the guidance and support of Ray Springfield and W E Richards.

The following season we were joined by Ken Williams and the late Mike Jones.

Before that, me and Chris were in the same class in Deganwy Primary School.

Can someone please post the funeral arrangements as and when they become available?

Thanks.

Self educated and very knowledgeable Newshound, for a Crosville bus driver who made his own rules!............but as previously, a 'heart of gold' and was never about 'me with Chris

However, distressing it must be for anyone, especially his family as there are no facts available to date from his last home in Norwich.

A reliable source with details of any factual arrangements to follow in due course

Was it a gym specifically for non bowlers then brian.
Was a crafty snooker player as well wigger and must hold the record for how low you could let a rolly go before it burnt your lip.

No, newshound. Everybody there was a non-bowler.

If my memory serves me right, Chris Evans (Deganwy) was selected only once to play for North Wales but typical of Chris, he went off on his travels abroad, I seem to recall, on a motor bike and I don’t believe Chris was ever selected again.

Chris was replaced by Steve Washington from Minydon who had travelled down on the coach as a spectator.

Steve played because the other three reserves had already been used up.

Steve won. :)

For the record, Chris actually got selected to play for North Wales before Derek Caughter, DT Evans, GE Hughes, Ivor Jones, Colin Evans, Ian Lawley and Geraint Jones were considered good enough for selection.

Here is that nostalgic match programme published below as a tribute to the memory of Chris Evans (Deganwy) from 45 years ago on Sunday, 13 May 1973 played at Lightwoods Park in Birmingham.
